Lyrics
Song for the Spring
by Tara Caldwell*
The voice of the lark in the spring, dear
Brings the promise of harvest again
And the wild bird’s song is of cheer, dear
Coming echoing over the plain
CHORUS Bringing sweet, sweet promise of harvest
As your promise was given to me
In the old old days so long long past
Ever dear in my heart’s memory
And a thought in my breast is a’stirring
As I listen to the wild bird’s song
And the wings of the wild duck are whirring
Through the day and through all the night long
And I dream of the days long past dear
When you and I were young
And ever as I am a’dreamin’
I hear those old songs that we sung
So I’ll sing you a song for the spring, dear
And I pray that you’ll sing one for me
Like the old old days so long long past
Ever dear in my heart’s memory
And yet when our season has passed, dear
And the harvest of life’s promise given
Can you feel ‘twas a gift from Above, dear
And our love was a prelude of Heaven
